Lucknow — In a remarkable cybercrime intervention, police in Krishnanagar, Lucknow, rescued a retired bank employee who was held hostage for six hours by fraudsters posing as CBI officers. The victim’s quick thinking and the police’s prompt action prevented a major cyber fraud.
Indrajeet Singh, a retired Bank of Baroda employee residing in Sindhu Nagar, was targeted while alone at home. His wife, who is undergoing cancer treatment, was visiting relatives, and both of his married children live elsewhere.

The ordeal began around 2 PM on Monday when Singh received a call from someone impersonating a CBI officer. The caller accused him of sending obscene videos to women and minors and then escalated the false charges, linking him to alleged hawala transactions. Singh was threatened, told his phone number was under surveillance, and was kept under “digital arrest” for approximately six hours.

Demonstrating remarkable presence of mind, Singh waited for an opportunity to escape. He used a bathroom visit as a pretext to leave the house and contacted a relative via a neighbor’s phone to report the incident. The relative immediately informed Krishnanagar police.
Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, Inspector P.K. Singh, along with a police team, reached the victim’s residence around 9 PM and safely freed him from the cybercriminals’ clutches. Thanks to the swift action of the police, the victim was spared from falling prey to a potentially large-scale scam.
